A Jigsaw Puzzle

By Annette Aitken

Life is like a jigsaw puzzle,
full of many pieces.
We built foundations strong to last,
and met up in the middle.

With each piece, we placed with care,
built on sweat and tears.
Recording all the happy times,
we had over the years.

With every passing year, we fit,
more pieces to the puzzle.
From infancy to maturity,
and all the in-between bits.

Everyone can build their own,
according to their needs.
When first you saw a bumble bee,
or skinned your little knees.

Alas I have a query, though,
weights heavy on my mind.
If the pieces do not fit,
what do we do? Rewind

Indeed it’s up to you of course,
the puzzle of your choice.
Add to existing one,
or build anew from scratch.

Your puzzle, your choice.
