Bonding

By Nicholas

Atomic Love:
Certain types of bonds are quite platonic
When one atom gives an electron to another it is called an ionic.
But between certain atoms the bond becomes real
Covalent pairs share, they don’t steal.
To find the future pairs simply look at the table
Electronegativity will tell if they are able
To form a relationship, also look at Lewis’ dots
For a close examination of how bonds will form, or not.
To make dot structures valence electrons must be shown
Counting the electrons tells you how the bond will be grown.
Now not all relationships are entirely fair
Sometimes a central atom has its nose in the air
Standing in the middle so all can see
Flashing all sides of its resonance in victory.
The strength of some bonds are stronger than others
Most similar to attraction to one’s mother
But other relationships don’t always last
At take dissociation energy to put them into the past.
