Brick By Brick

By Emily Blazensky

Brick by brick, I built a wall
I built so high, it would not fall

But every brick that I lay down
Hides more of me I wish you found

My bricks are more than rock and dust
They hold my hurt, my love, my lust

And every brick conceals a key
That would unlock still more of me

But now my wall, it does no good
It keeps more out than it should

It hides my smile, my hopes, my dreams
And makes my heart not what it seems

I dream that you would knock it down,
Use every key, till I unwound

But brick by brick I built a wall
So nobody really knows me at all
