Elders

By Cece Winters

When you’re small your elders
are in control of how they shape you
to become when you’re older.

What happens if they are teaching you
negative ways to become?
Their negative attitude as a child has
a massive effect on you.

What happens when the small child
learns and feels this isn’t normal, is it?
This particular child somehow learns
that their elders are wrong.
And thinks for themselves.

This small child grows up to learn
that she was right all along. Her elders
tried to teach her their bad habits.

Of course some of their bad habits
passed on, it’s only nature that some of it did.
As you have to live with them for almost two decades.

These elders she is surrounded by,
think they are always right about everything.
That this woman is unwise and immature.
Yet, she had gone further in life than they ever will.
