Energy, Enthalpy, & Thermochemistry

By Mykala

Just like the endless ebb and flow of the ocean,
The energy of the universe is constant.
It cascades between systems and surroundings in its potential or motion.

We must see that our combined potentials and kinetics give our energy internal,
Our capacity to be functioning society members–doing work, producing heat.
But beyond the brevity of human existence is the energy eternal.

Some measure their fleeting lives in coffee cups–constantly under pressure,
While others unabashedly fill and maintain their entire space:
Exploding like a bomb creating a fissure.

But if the amount you put into it or how hard you press through remains unchanged,
No work will be done at the end of the day.
And then only the heat that’s present influences how energy is arranged.

So just like the endless ebb and flow of the ocean,
The energy of the universe is constant.
It cascades between systems and surroundings in its potential or motion.
