Forgotten Man

By Adayliah G Enerson

Wind ruffles my edges.
I sit along crumbling ledges.
My cap’s a broken toy
That retains no semblance of joy.

My hair, laying mirthless,
Brands my thoughts worthless.
My countenance, simply ignored
Like bent nails in a cracked board.

They esteemed me as naught,
Just another handle-less pot;
Threw me out like ripped paper
With no breath, no vapor.

They quickly trod me under
And kicked my parts asunder.
Just as soon, they moved on
To pick more mess from their lawn.

I was just old fruit, rotten,
So I’ve been forgotten.
Hollow, I’ll blow away
Like loose scraps into the bay.
