Guilt Weighs Heavy

By Melissa Speed

Guilt weighs heavy
I feel it dragging me down
Down into the depths of despair

Guilt weighs heavy
I feel it crushing my spine
When I lie awake in sleepless nights

It weighs heavy
For there will be no release
One cannot apologise to the dead

It weighs heavy
When it comes with grief
It floods your mind, tainting memories

Guilt weighs heavy
I felt it knock me down
And I wonder if I’ll ever get up

For she is gone
She, who would have lifted me
She, who would have told me there is

Nothing
To be sorry for
But if I could just hear it

Once more
