Itchy Pox

By Susan Noyes Anderson

We don’t see chicken pox too much in this day and age, but those who are unlucky enough to catch it can still confirm the misery! When I was young, parents used to have “chicken pox parties” to give the whole circle of friends a chance to get it and get over it together. Sadly, I never caught it at the parties. Instead, I caught it out of the blue at age 13. I spent several summer days in a cool bath with oatmeal in it, trying to stave off the itch. I am thinking that I should probably have gotten up a pox stampede instead.
