Poetry Is Capturing The Mystery

By Shrinivási

poetry is capturing the mystery
in the brittle shell of language

is dis-covering God and Goodness
freeing them from a rampant darkness

acutely you realize
how near heaven can be

in a singular second you see revealed
happiness, joy and beauty

a tributary you are, a dark creek
where at high tide the sea comes rushing in

shoreless you are, unbounded
touching the ends of the earth
bordering on the threshold of heaven
full, immensely full of life

within this promising land
you can find fulfillment and joy

in spite of the ignorant, the blind
who fight a desperate battle

against calendars, the world, the sun
but that will not offer a bridge to the future

he who oppresses someone by fear
will perish in a landslide of despair

will be drowned in a vortex of doubts
and end up lonely on the shore of death

become what a man was in the beginning
what a man still looks at with endearment
