they’ve never been more tired

they’ve never been more scared

never done so much to get ready

or felt so unprepared

they got into this to save lives

not to risk their own

now every night they wonder

just what they’re bringing home

but still they all keep at it

day after brutal day

ironic, when i think about it

it takes my breath away

they hold the line, they make the choices

few of us could make

they face the wreckage that the virus

leaves within its wake

so from the safety of our homes

let us send our love

to these brave souls, by messenger

adorned

in mask

and glove
