A Beautiful Bangladesh Poem

By Abu Tarek Md Tahsin

Beyond this cacophony
Of a thousand wishes
Beyond this sprawling metropolis
Of million lives.

Stands still the green Delta
Of a beautiful Bangladesh
A land crisscrossed in rivers wide
Of multicolored fishes and boats

A people blessed with different Gods and goddesses
A culture celebrating different festivals together.

But slowly and surely
She is losing it all
The Bangladesh we once cherished
Is losing it’s colors for all.

No longer the flowers grow free
No longer it’s people are blessed to be Bangladeshi.

Where are those days of old?
When we used to sing beneath the trees
As old as gold.

Where are the fruits, that we fought for,
Where is the dream of a United Bengal.

Who has counted the price?
So dearly we have paid
For a Bangladesh dreamed to be
equal and great.
