57+ Websites That Will Pay For Your Poetry In 2024!!!

“POETRY DOESN’T PAY.”… If you have been into arts and culture for any decent amount of time, I’m sure you have heard that phrase before. Look, I’m not here to convince you otherwise. 

Truth be told, I may have uttered those very words myself, once or twice. I know too many brilliant writers and performers and I guess I just wish there were more paying gigs out there!

A couple of weeks ago, I did an article about submitting and getting paid with Palette Poetry. You guys really enjoyed it, so I decided to level up on this one and give you 57 more opportunities! Some will pay only $5, while others will pay as much as $300 per poem! So take your time and explore the options.

Note: Some websites have a submission fee of $1 or $3, and others may accept submissions seasonally, so please read the submission guidelines carefully. The websites are in no particular order; I hope you find what you are looking for.

What Are The Best Websites that will pay for your poetry?

The Sun

The Sun is a daily tabloid newspaper in the United Kingdom, published from Monday to Saturday. It’s one of three national newspapers, and it has an average circulation of 2,260,876 copies per day. 

You could be earning up to £250 for your poetry with The Sun. They accept all genres, so there are no limits or restrictions on what kind of poem you submit!

AGNI Magazine

Agni is a literary magazine named after the Vedic fire-god from the University of Georgia. Agni publishes literature, poetry, art photographs and other visual media in all formats (print, digital), emphasising experimental work that pushes boundaries.

They will buy first worldwide serial rights and pay $10 per printed page for accepted prose and $20 per page for the selected poem, up to a maximum of $150. 

The Cincinnati Review

The Cincinnati Review is a literary journal that publishes poetry, fiction, reviews and essays. They pay \$25 for prose and \$30 per page of poetry in the print journal. They also give a free digital copy to all micro authors each year.

Boulevard Magazine

Boulevard Magazine is one of the most prominent websites that will pay for your poetry, fiction and art. They offer a minimum of $100, and a maximum of $300 for prose and poetry pays between $50 and $250. To submit your work, visit their website here:

Epoch Magazine

EPOCH has been in continuous publication since 1947 and is currently edited by Cornell University’s Creative Writing Department faculty. They publish fiction, poetry, essays, cartoons, and screenplays, focusing on graphic art and comics.

The organisation pays poets a minimum of $50 per poem, but the amount they pay can vary depending on how much funding they receive. 

Rattle

Rattle is a non-profit publication dedicated to promoting the practice of poetry. Not affiliated with any other organisation, this independent journal provides an engaging space for poets and writers alike. Contributors get paid $200 per poem and receive a free one-year subscription to the magazine. They also pay $100 for an online submission!

Grain Magazine

Grain Magazine is a quarterly literary journal that publishes engaging, surprising, eclectic and challenging writing and art by Canadian and international artists. All contributors, regardless of genre, are paid $50 per page to a maximum of $250. Plus two copies! 

The Poetry Foundation

The Poetry Foundation is an organisation that publishes and promotes poems from all over the world. They offer many different ways for poets to share their work with readers, including opportunities to publish on their website or in one of their publications.

All poets will be compensated for published poetry. They pay $10/line for text poems with a minimum honorarium of $300 per poem. Audio and visual poems are also eligible to receive this compensation of $300 per poem as well. Prose can expect to receive $150 per page.

 

Crazyhorse

Crazyhorse prides itself on publishing the work of contemporary poets, no matter how early in their careers. They publish poets from diverse backgrounds and are especially interested in publishing those traditionally overlooked by more established presses. Crazyhorse offers $20 per page with a maximum payment limit of $200. 

Ruminate

Ruminate is an excellent opportunity for writers who want to be compensated for their work, and it’s also a great way to get your name out there as an emerging poet. They currently pay $20 per page, but only up to a maximum of $80. 

Arc Poetry Magazine

The Arc Poetry Magazine pays for poetry at the rate of $50 per page. They only publish three issues each year, but it’s worth checking out if you have work that fits with what they look for. To submit your work, visit: arcpoets.org/submissions. Payment is issued when the piece gets published, and you get one free copy of that issue. 

Goblin Fruit

Goblin Fruit is a community of readers and writers who value poetry. They publish new poems every week, along with interviews, essays, reviews, artwork and other content related to the world of contemporary poetry.

The website pays a flat rate of $5.00 on publication for original, unpublished poems and $2.50 for solicited reprints. All contributors are paid in full before they post their work on our website or social media platforms.

Chicken Soup for the Soul

Chicken Soup for the Soul is a publisher of inspirational and motivational books, poems, anthologies, and audio collections. 

They are always looking to publish new writers, making it possible for anyone who has something inspiring to share with the world to make money from their talent.

If they publish your story or poem, you will be paid $200 one month after publication and receive ten free copies of the book. 

Cricket Media

CRICKET magazine is looking for emerging, talented writers to publish in their magazine. The platform seeks out new contributors with fresh viewpoints on the world around them. 

They’re always open to receiving unsolicited manuscripts from aspiring authors, so don’t hesitate – Send your submissions of poetry and fiction today, and you could earn up to $3.00 per line; $25.00 minimum. 

Leading Edge

The Leading Edge is a publication that seeks to publish the work of people all over the world. It doesn’t matter where you live, as long as your submission meets our standards for quality and originality! 

They accept submissions from January until September each year and pay 1 cent per word. The minimum payment is $10.00 and a maximum of $50.00.  

Poetry Magazine

Poetry Magazine is a journal that publishes poetry, interviews with poets and prose essays on the writing process. All poets will be compensated for published poems. They pay $10/line for text poems with a minimum honorarium of $300 per poem. 

Poets who submit their work to the journal in multiple formats–such as print and video or audio and visual poetry can expect to earn $300.

Willow Springs Magazine

Willow Springs Magazine is another generous website that will pay for your poetry and other creative writing pieces. They’re looking for new submissions, so if you have any poems waiting in the wings, why not submit them?

They pay contributors $100 per published long-form prose piece, which is higher than most publications. They also offer rates of $40 for short articles and  $20 per published poem 

Three Penny Review

Three Penny Review is a literary journal that publishes poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. They are always looking for submissions from new writers and will pay you $200 per poem.

Carve Magazine

Carve Magazine is a publication for poetry and offers compensation in free copies, monetary payment or both. They pay $50 per published piece and offer feedback on 5-10% of declined submissions.

The Antigonish Review

The Antigonish Review is a Canadian literary journal that publishes poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction. They offer $5 per page to a maximum of $25 in addition to two copies (one digital and one print of The Antigonish Review)

The Pedestal Magazine

The Pedestal Magazine is a literary arts publication that offers contributors $50 per accepted poem (provided it has not been published elsewhere). 

They also offer two copies (one digital and one print) of The Pedestal Magazine for every submission they publish and a contributor copy to the author.

50 Haikus

50 Haikus is a literary journal that publishes only open form haiku poetry. Each issue contains 50 poems by established and emerging poets in an eclectic mix of styles worldwide, ensuring it keeps readers on their toes with different perspectives each time they pick up the latest copy!

The Fiddlehead

You may not have heard of The Fiddlehead, but it is a Canadian literary journal that has been published since 1947. It is Canada’s oldest and most prestigious poetry magazine. 

They publish six issues annually and Pay $60 per published page, plus two complimentary copies of the issue with your work.

Dreams and Nightmares

Dreams and Nightmares is a community where writers who love writing poetry can share their work with like-minded people. The website pays $12 on acceptance + 2 contributor’s copies.

The Southern Review

From its founding in 1935, The Southern Review has been the premier literary journal of America. Hailed by many as more superior to any other magazine, the platform puts so much effort into discovering and promoting a diverse array of engaging literature- including fiction, nonfiction poetry, translation from international writers that are both established and emerging.

The Southern Review offers a $50 payment per printed page and an additional $25 for each subsequent page. It will print any type of genre as long as it meets their standards, with no limit on length or style.

Frontier Poetry

Another fantastic website that will pay for your poetry is Frontier Poetry, a small, independent publisher of poetry books. 

They publish works from both established and up-and-coming poets with a focus on experimentalism in form. They offer between $50 and $150 as payment to their partner poets for any selected pieces. 

Strong Verse

Strong Verse is an online poetry magazine that exists to give a voice to poems that can sustain life with words. The website currently pays $10 per poem for first publication and nonexclusive reprint rights.

VQR Online

VQR Online is an American literary journal publishing poetry, art photographs, and other visual media in all formats (print, digital), emphasising experimental work that pushes boundaries. 

VQR online publishes fiction as well as nonfiction articles about the arts, but it does not publish mainstream commercial writing or genre-specific pieces

They offer payment to their partner poets for any selected pieces of content published at VQR Online. They pay $200 per poem, up to 4 poems, and a suite of 5 or more poems could fetch as much as $1,000.

New Reader Magazine

New Reader Magazine is a quarterly art, literature, and culture journal. They offer groundbreaking visual art for those who want to stand out from others in a crowd and believe it is their duty as publishers to provide readers with literature that will make them think deeply while also evoking deep emotion through visual stimulation of the eye’s receptors. You can expect to earn $5 per piece.

Iron Horse

Iron Horse Review is an online literary magazine publishing pieces representing diversity in contemporary writing styles intending to highlight new voices in literature. Upon publication, they provide an honorarium of $50 per poem

The Capilano Review

The Capilano Review offers a forum for discussion about literary trends in North America and around the world. They accept submissions of poetry (to a maximum of 8 pages) and submissions of prose (to a maximum of 2,000 words) and will pay $50 per published page (maximum of $200)

Black Warrior

Black Warrior Review is a quarterly literary journal that publishes fiction, nonfiction, poetry, comics and art. The publication has previously featured work from Pulitzer Prize-winning authors as well as emerging writers on the scene. 

They offer royalty payments to regular-submission print contributors between $100 and $220, depending on the length of pieces.

Strange Horizons

Strange Horizons is a weekly magazine of and about speculative fiction. They publish highly imaginative pieces such as short stories, poems, reviews on books in the genre, essays that explore new perspectives to consider when reading otherworldly narratives. They currently pay $50 per poem, regardless of length or complexity. 

Willow Springs

Willow Springs accepts fiction and poetry submissions between September 1 and May 31 every year. They pay contributors $100 per published long-form prose piece and $20 per published poem.

Fun for Kidz Magazine

Fun for Kids Magazine creates and publishes articles, stories, poetry, comics and illustrations by both established writers and new voices to entertain boys and girls from 6 to 12 years old. 

They pay a minimum of $10 per poem or puzzle, and a complimentary copy will be sent to each writer who has contributed to a given issue. 

Slice Magazine

Slice Magazine is a quarterly publication that features poetry, art, and short stories by internationally recognised artists. The non-profit literary is based in New York City and pays $100 per poem.

The Baltimore Review

The Baltimore Review is a nonprofit literary magazine that publishes four times a year. They pay $40 via Amazon gift certificate or $40 through PayPal.

The Colorado Review

The Colorado Review pays $10 per page ($30 minimum) for poetry and considers poetry of any style. Please see guidelines and instructions here

Bennington Review

The Bennington Review is a journal that publishes poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction. They pay $20 per poem and two copies of the issue in which the piece is published and a copy of the subsequent issue.

Bellevue Literary Review

Bellevue Literary Review is looking for work that examines the relationship between body and mind. They are open to submissions of prose, poetry, or any form in-between! They pay $50 for poetry and $100 for prose

US Kids Mag

U.S Kids Mag is the publisher of Humpty Dumpy Magazine as well as Jack And Jill Magazine, which are both children’s magazines catering to children aged between 2 and 12 years old. They offer payments of over $25

New Myths

New Myths is a quarterly ezine by a community of writers, poets and artists. The site accepts all types of submissions, and the pay is 1.5 cents/word with a minimum payment of $30 for every submission accepted!

Arts & Letters

Arts & Letters is a literary magazine that runs out of the MFA program in Georgia College. It has been publishing since 2009 and features work by writers from all over, highlighting regions like Asia or Africa, for instance, America. The minimum payment for all submissions is $50.

Subtropics

Subtropics is the literary journal of the University of Florida – with a focus on literature in all its forms: prose, essays, creative nonfiction, personal narratives and more! The website pays $100 per selected poem.

Three Line Poetry

Three Line Poetry is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the beauty of three-line poems. They pay $1.5 per poem and $10 if your poem is marked as “Editor’s Choice.”

Ember Journal

Ember is published and administered by a nonprofit organisation called the Empire & Great Jones Creative Arts Foundation. The journal currently pays 2 cents per word or $20 per work, whichever is more, for worldwide first publication rights in English.

 Contrary Magazine

Contrary Magazine is the Literary publication at the University of Chicago. It was founded by students and alumni of Chicago’s Master of Arts Program in the Humanities in 2003. 

It now operates independently and publishes writers from throughout the world. Contrary Magazine pays $20 per author per issue.

Fiverr

Fiverr is one of the best places to make money online. It’s a global marketplace where you can enlist your writing services, such as a custom birthday poem, for as little as $20. all you have to do is create a profile and list your services.

Qu Literary Magazine

Qu is published by the MFA program at the Queen’s University of Charlotte. Payment Upon Publication: $100 per prose piece, $50 per poem or visual art. Contributors will also receive one copy of the magazine.

Edwin E. Smith Publishing

Are you still looking for more websites that will pay for your poetry? I cannot believe you’ve made it this far down the list! Checkout Edwin E. Smith Publishing, they offer a modest $5 for every published piece on their Quarterly Magazine.

Etsy

Etsy is a popular online marketplace with over one billion dollars in sales last year. It has become increasingly popular among artists of all types who want to sell their creations directly to consumers without intermediaries. 

It’s also well-known as a site where shoppers can search for handmade goods worldwide that often come at more competitive prices than comparable items on Amazon or other major websites. You can sell your poetry or write custom pieces for clients from \$20

Event Magazine

EVENT accepts general, unsolicited submissions and encourage writers from diverse backgrounds and experience levels to submit their work to earn $40 for poetry, $35 for prose. Selected contributors will also receive two copies of the issue in which their work appears. 

Confrontation Magazine

Confrontation Magazine was founded in 1968 with the mission of bringing new talent to light. Selected poems can expect to earn between $150 and $200.

Nashville Review

Nashville Review is the literary Journal Based in the capital of the most populous state in America- Tennessee. The journal aims to publish the best work they can get their hands on. They pay $25 per poem and $100 for prose and art pieces.

Iowa Review

The Iowa Review publishes the best short stories, poems, and essays three times a year. They will pay you a minimum of $40 for poetry and a minimum of $100 for prose.

Upwork

Upwork is a global online workplace where freelancers and clients connect. Freelancers offer skill sets in various areas (design, data entry, marketing) to clients who need these skills for their projects or ongoing work needs. You could earn up to $55 per hour as a freelance writer or charge per word or poem; it’s up to you!  

Palette Poetry

Palette Poetry is a poetry organisation whose goal is to publish the best poetry possible, no matter how it’s written. 

They have one mission: To create an encouraging space for all voices and ensure that everyone has access to good art. Selected poets can expect to earn $50 per poem, up to $150.
