A Goat Named Billy

By Jonathan Kraft

There once was a goat named Billy

But a Billy Goat Gruff he was not

Everyone was always thinking he was one

So he decided “I’ll show ‘em what I’ve got.”

So he baa’ed and he jumped and stuck out his chin

He ate fifty-four, no fifty-five cans

But still they thought he was a goat gruff

So he decided to make bigger plans

He climbed to the top of the very tallest hill

Climbing past every crevice and rock

Where he stood out alone and took a deep breath

Then let out a very loud “BAWK!”

Billy had decided to act like a chicken

And he crowed like one all day

Soon a crowd had gathered just down the hill

And this is what they had to say.

“Look at that chicken! It looks like a goat,

With two horns and four hooves too!

But ‘tis def’nit’ley a chicken, for only a chicken

Could caw and crow so true.”
