Newtown, Connecticut Poem

By Roy Lee

Suffer the children
On floor boards they bleed.
Suffer the world
When leaders do not lead.

The politicians say
That there was evil here
But evil is the society
That is armed from fear

The evil was not
The torments of a boy
But evil were they who
Gave him a gun for a toy.

Evil is the nation
That values its wealth
But does not provide funds
To support mental health

Evil are the judges where
The right to bear arms
Over-rides need to protect
The innocent from harm.

Evil are the lobbyists
Of the N-R-A,
That a semi-automatic
Is the American Way

But the tears that flow
Are not confined to the States.
We are those children,
We share humanities fate.
