Recycling (Fun Poem 155)
By David Harris
Our Governments encourage us to recycle,
not everything but just the bits they choose.
Empty tin cans, bottles glass and plastic, paper,
and the list goes on and on.
However there is a downside,
one of which I cannot fathom.
You can recycle plastic bottles,
but not their plastic tops,
no particular reason given.
You can recycle paper,
but not paper envelopes,
reason given; the glue gums up the works!
Charities collect plastic bottle tops
and they can recycle them,
but you cannot put them in the recycle bin!
Plastic shopping bags cannot be recycled
so they tell us,
but some supermarkets can!
The question it poses is interesting,
how can some recycle others cannot?
Messages get mixed;
cardboard envelopes can be recycled
because the glue on them
doesn’t gum up the works!
Everything you think can be recycled cannot.
Then some bright spark says
help the environment, go GREEN.
Oh yes go green all right!
Go green with frustration
with what you can and cannot recycle.
