The First Rain Showers

By Chitrangada Sharan

The first rain showers of the season,

Do something magical to my senses,

Everyone seems to be smiling,

And for no evident reason.

The green trees and plants,

Move and dance in rhythm,

And look at those twin birds,

Sitting drenched at the tree joint.

The unmistakable fragrance,

Of the rain soaked soil,

And colours all around,

The hearts full of joy,

And the minds free of turmoil.

As I spread my arms wide,

And look towards those dark clouds,

Promising happiness to all,

They groove and move with pride.

I close my eyes and breathe,

Oh! the scent of the greens,

And feel the cool raindrops,

On my face and all over me.

The tiny droplets of the rain,

Pour to wash away all the pain,

With a song in my heart,

I talk to the heavens, again!
