When The Curtains Were Raised
By Ally Fred
They both gasped at the thin air,
Gazing at the paintings on the wall,
was everything still there?
This night was cruelly cold,
Especially for a pair,
when not everything was told.
One was afraid,
the other felt betrayed.
And the other one outlayed.
A thief in the night,
or a swindler in the past?
She felt like an outcast.
He was in the middle with no faith.
One plus one wouldn’t be three,
had he been good at math.
She was at the edge of the blade,
world torn apart, now she’d see
in clarity a choice she made.
