Arkansas Poem
By Matthew Holmes
Arkansas, Arkansas, I sing your name
From the rolling hills to the boiling springs
From the harvest fields to the powerful falls
There’s plenty to love about Arkansas.
In Arkansas we love our sports
We’ve got baseball, football and track; of course
We’ve got Red Wolves and Bears and Trojans here
We’ve got Boll Weevils, and the Reddie Spirit to fear
But one mascot here reigns high above all
And that’s the Razorbacks of Arkansas.
There’s Greers Ferry, DeGray and Ouachita
The Buffalo, the Little Red and the spring in fall
But there’s one river that’s bigger than them all
The one they call the Arkansas.
We have diamonds and crystals and oil here too
We have hunting and fishing in boat or canoe
In the Duck Hunting Capital they all can call
That’s part of what makes this Arkansas.
We’ve got Wal-Mart, Yarnell’s and Acme Brick too
And made up in Altus, wine is our brew
Bill Clinton drank some, and everyone saw
He wasn’t ashamed here in Arkansas.
There’s the Travelers, the Naturals and the Twisters too
Johnny Cash, Evanescence and the Sling Blade Crew
It might have been the worst movie you ever saw
But it was filmed right here in Arkansas.
Arkansas, Arkansas, I sing your name
From the rolling hills to the boiling springs
From the harvest fields to the powerful falls
There’s plenty to love about Arkansas.
