Ask Me Again

By Ally Fred

What is there between pain and power?
He flipped a coin with the heads up.
To embrace a new day, he’d then cower,
And ask again, now with a whip.

Is my fate locked in my yester?
A volatile thought yet so to root.
In his dreams he was the master,
But this war he’d never dare fight.

I need an answer, or do you?
He crushed his heart with his mind.
Without memory he’d have no clue,
That the past also preserves a sound.
