Magical Thinking

By Angelica Tao

It starts with an illogical idea.

Then, I simplify that idea so that it becomes a misconception.

A misconception is usually based on reality, but this one is not.

I get more confused, and I have to start over, but this time I am taking this misconception and creating a new reality based on that…

Which becomes a superstition.

A superstition whose origin is not based on any particular event or observation.

But rather, some memory that never happened, that I must have forgotten about.

It’s starting to make sense!

Did you hear that, everyone!

Nine tally marks on the wall.

Means that I’ve been through this nine times.

Ten.

Ten is when the magic happens.
