My Face

By Jennifer Bates

The lines you see now on my face
Will tell you of my life
The laughter and the happiness
The sorrow and the strife

The frown lines on my forehead
When worries would set in
Of how to make a dollar last
The strength to find within

The laughter lines around my mouth
When the joy of life would bring
A newborn child into my arms
My heart would start to sing

The finest lines around my eyes
These eyes of emerald green
Are there to show throughout the years
The places I have seen

These lines are what define me
The person I’ve become
Each one they tell a story
The loss the joy the fun

I wouldn’t change a single thing
Not one would I erase
My life not told through speaking
But through the lines now on my face
