The New Library In Madison, Wisconsin Poem

By Jon Yttri

Concrete ceiling, rubber floor.
Is this the window or the door?
Every wall and pillow bleached.
Operating room lamps easily reached.
Modern art on the walls.
People making loud phone calls.
Tables found everywhere.
Any shape but round or square.
Ubiquitous computers, computers galore.
For those who might find books a bore.
Chairs where you might have sat.
Any surface but flat.
Private rooms for study teams
Where everybody can be seen.
Multi-media center.
Space for teens.
Room for those in toddler jeans.
Everything, but where to look
When I want to check out book?
