Tradition

By Becky Schmitz

Breezy sage plateaus set against a brilliant blue sky

a jack’s long ears pop into sight and antelope look up from a distance.

Rock fence posts line resident sheep and cattle

scattered machinery sits old and new.

The twisted art of a Juniper tree

imagine the history it could share.

With sand in your shoes and dust in your eye

nature’s tranquil playground offers much,

a beetle’s morning footprint trail, a coyote’s afternoon howl

a truly deep starlit sky.

Amongst strewn lava rocks and dry tree relics

a delicate white flower displays the beauty of life.

This is a special place, of memories shared.
