Afghanistan Poem

By J.B. LeBuert

A country so far away
And for this we will pay
They don’t want a democracy
They’d rather have a theocracy

We’re going broke making arms makers rich
The pentagon doesn’t care about our poor
Does the rest of our country want this war?
Someone has to stand up and bitch

These people will fight a thousand year war
We are hated and can’t even the score
The deadly opium poppies growth should stop
And we won’t even stop, that cash crop

Drugs come from that country for dough
And kill more people than ever before
The politicians are liars about the drug war
Ten years there, with so little to show

Their politicians are corrupt like mine
That’s the same thing we have that haunts
And the military industrial complex wants
To fatten their bank’s bottom line

Osama is gone and was not living there
Once again it’s all about the money
If we keep this up, our future’s not sunny
Let the largest super power beware

We can’t be the world’s moral leader
And still be the biggest bottom feeder
We can’t even decide to come together
No matter the cause, no matter the weather

Billions spent and who is better off?
Only the ones feeding from the political trough
The stink will never leave their hands
Will our whole country end up the bad lands?
