Dead Whispers

By K.A.E Grove

They whisper forever in my ear

Their fingers cold against my face

Filling my heart with twisting fear

As I stumble lost in this dark place

So many voices plead

That I can’t even hear one

Full of painful need

All I can do is run

Blinded by the deep night

I crash and I fall

So far from the safety of the light

That none hear my desperate call

Yet the whispers never cease

Drowning in horror and decay

Lost souls demanding peace

Forcing me to hear all they say

Death filling every sense

Heartbreak, betrayal and pain

Overwhelming my every defence

Forcing themselves into my heart and brain

Soon I cry their tears

Huddled lost in the dark

Absorbed in the pain of lost years

Their memories tearing mine apart

In the darkness I die

Claimed by the dead’s cold touch

Awakening to the crows cry

Their all seeing judge

Their pain guiding my steps

Bathing in the phoenix’s fire

I hunt their unpaid debts

Lost in vengeful burning fire

And still the dead whisper in my ear

Driving me to the guilty unknown

A living ghost delivering pain and fear

Never to find a peace of my own
