Floating In Leaky

By Julie Creighton

I am buoyant, floating
On my back,
Drifting where the lazy river takes me.
Trees crowd the bank,
Limbs frame the blue sky above me,
Water fills my ears,
Muting the sound of the world around me,
But the laughter of my friends nearby
Seeps through.
It makes me smile.
I can hear my heart beat,
My lungs sound like bellows.
I close my eyes and surrender
To these stolen moments of solitude.
