Happy Bahrain National Day

By Shehab Shabbir Firoz

The palms, they rise, they sing and sway;

With winter winds, they honor this day.

They sing the song, of their beloved land;

Pearl Sized, with glittering sand.

The cradle of history, that lies in its lap;

Their land with stories, that lies in its wrap.

Tylos or Arados for the Greek, of those times;

Awal or Dilmun those name ring chimes.

And the message of messenger, spreading light;

In this land of love and care, shining bright.

Its farms and seas, with fish and date;

Its warm welcome, with no place for hate.

This land of Arabs, so small in size;

Its leaders, its people, all truly wise.

Their past and present, ready to weave;

A future, of glory, with intent, they heave.

The dwelling, old, marks of time;

With Skyscrapers and marina’s, they echo in rhyme.

The old and New, as patterns, they form;

To glow the landscape, dazzling and warm.

The smell of spices, and incense that burn;

That fills the souqs, with every churn.

The Bab al Bahrain, the grand old man;

That speaks of Bahrain, its glory and sane.

The glorious leads, they led to show;

What’s done, and what’s more, to glow.

Like ripples, they teach, values to all;

The rulers, they engrave the good, in soul.

These noble of births, with hearts and minds;

Have sparkled the land, with strengthened binds.

The modern world, loves glancing this land;

To see its splendor , on its gleaming sand.

This day, has come to stand tall, to rise;

And bow to thee, for this land, in prize.

My wishes that pour, like drops of rain;

In praise to thee, for Bahrain’s gain.
