Hibernation

By Michelle Wicklow

Some weeks, a white cloud envelops me
As soft as a cotton ball
And the days melt like marshmallows
So I see no difference at all
From one to the next
As time, in a steady drip, flows on
And I take a step away from my life
In an off-season hibernation
Then inspiration wakes me
Grabs me by the shoulders and shakes me
Restored, I finally break free
From my mental vacation
