Poem For A Camel

By Arjen Duinker

Tomorrow is the day of the small things,
Of the pin and the yellow paint.
You will feel happy.

Tomorrow is the day of the very small things,
Of the droplets and the cord.
You will feel friendship.

Tomorrow is the day of sauntering
Past the fruit of shadows.
Don’t touch it.

Tomorrow is the day of the songs
That are sung in secrecy.
You will sing with the jeweller.

Tomorrow is the day of the little boys
And their abstract noise in the streets.
Prick up your ears.

They shout: ‘Long live the nicest market in the world!’
They shout: ‘So eternal are the rocks of loyalty!’
They shout: ‘If you’re vain, go astray!’
