Stop And Smell The Roses

By Brenda Arledge

The imagination of past generations
gives us Cinderella and Prince Charming,
showing us how magical life can be
if we dare to dream,
but it leaves out
life’s most important aspect,
to stop and smell the roses.

We need to leave behind our chaotic life
for a few moments each day,
slowing down, breathing in life’s beauty,
holding on to each tiny detail,
like how someone’s laughter
brightens up the day,
or how a simple hug
can give us an intense, magic feeling,
putting a smile on our face.

We discover life’s greatest rewards
when we take time to relax
embracing each precious moment,
appreciating the sails of time,
before they drift away
in the restless winds of tomorrow.
