Tragedy

By Saddley

Of my accord

I traveled the world

Delving life’s paths

Navigating seas

In search of my beloved

One day,

Beneath the sun’s rays

I spotted him

So beautiful and gentle

My dream man

I loved him and he did me

We were meant to be

We met our families

We were wed in holy matrimony

In excitement we were enshrouded

Few nights passed

With child, Alas!

After groans and moans

A beautiful boy we had

Advent of our troubles

Torturous growth

Night pains and swells

Fever, malaise, loud cries

Oxygen slowly became foe

Doctors his best buddies

Sadness and fury were ours

As his demise approached

Fear of bringing forth his siblings

Distanced us like East and West

The fear of recycling the past

We never knew we were ‘S’s

We never knew oil was fueling fire

How could we have known?

We were writing our tragedies

We never knew! We never knew!

Let love not blur your vision

Clouding your clear sight

Know your genotype like your name

Give not innocents undeserving burden

Let’s not be their bane
