For The Many Young Women

By Christina Hersh

I sit in the morning sun
Cradled in cushions
Crying into my coffee

This buttered toast stands for comfort
Rather than -a portion for a balanced meal-

I am grieving

The loss if innocence weighs heavy on my mind.

As I sit here in the sun, sipping coffee safely, I can’t help but feel … a little bit guilty.

For I have already made the journey from my brokenness to where I am today.

But still…

I want her to be the one cradled in cushions, sipping coffee in the sunshine.

I want her to feel comfortable in her body and mind.

To feel embraced and empowered by her womankind.
