If For One Day

By Jane Merchant

If for one day
I can forget
The nagging care,
The needless fret;

For one day, keep
My spirit clear
From anxious doubt
And useless fear;

If for one day
I can believe
In life, and joyously
Receive

The blessings that
Are always mind
Of earth and air
And love divine –

Oh, then at last,
At last, I may
Learn how to do it
Every day.
