Pen Pal

By Gina Pacelli

Wanted your kisses, your touch, your smile.
But all you could offer me were your words.
If they were sincere, I would have taken them.
But lies dressed up in sweetness only repel me.

Friendships based solely on text messaging
are empty and void of anything real.
If our paths could never cross again,
then, pen pals, we would only be.

If another woman has captured your heart,
then why do you still seek my attention?
Emotional bonds cut deeper than physical ones.
So that is why I am letting you go.

May you be happy,
may you be free,
to live and love,
without me
