The Clot Thickens

By James George

Asleep in the night,
unknowing about Afib,
a fluttering in the heart atrium
where clots can form
and slip away into the brain
where blood slows
and bursts and blasts
away the last particles
of cognition; and hope
was he would not awaken
to the half-dead state
without any words.
