Waiting To See Who I Am

By Maureen Pearce

Her smile so sweet it charms a bee
Her scowl so intent to have caused a dent
Her laugh so infectious it can make your day
Her cry so personal is causes dismay
Her look of lost
Her search for a familiar face
She always puts me in her space

Going in each time waiting to see who
I am Preparing each time to accept the name
Going in each time waiting to see who I am
Preparing each time for the game

The love we share
When she is not there
The comfort I feel
When I ease her stare
No answers to questions anymore
Just embracing her so she feels at ease
She always puts me in her space

Going in each time waiting to see who I am
Preparing each time to accept the name
Going in each time waiting to see who I am
Preparing each time for the game

Only questions of comfort answered gently
For this soul who natured and nurtured
Only touch that relieves tension
For a teacher above mention
She searched for answers for so many
Yet today cannot recognize a penny
She always puts me in her space

Going in each time waiting to see who I am
Preparing each time to accept the name
Going in each time waiting to see who I am
Preparing each time for the end of the game

Life presents things that bring us to our knees
It so seems so unfair to deal with such disease
Being the memory of my mother is a task like no other
Being the voice of my mother requires mindful talk
Being the hearing of my mother demands attentiveness
Being the task advisor for one so sweet is a blessing in disguise
She always puts me in her space

Going in each time waiting to see who I am
Preparing each time to accept the name
Going in each time waiting to see who I am
Preparing each time for the final say.
